How The Association Got Started
The 51st Association was started by Earl Cheney in June 1988. Earl had been a Crew Chief in the 16th Fighter Squadron at Suwon Korea. While making a trip from his home in Amesbury, MA, to California he stopped in Nora Springs, IA, to visit his best friend from Korea. During the visit it was discussed that it would be great to get together with more of the 51st guys and recall the "good ole days". After he returned home he placed ads in the VFW and American Legion magazines to see how many guys would respond. Well, as they say, the rest is history.
The Association has yearly reunions in various cities around the United States. To read about them click on reunions. Admission to the Association is open to anyone that was a member of or attached to the 51st FIW at anytime during the years of 1950-1956. The Association does accept non-voting members from the years prior to 1950 and after 1956. To apply you may contact the webmaster or print the Application .
